Adolfo Valle

Ada, Michigan
MFA in Illustration

Adolfo Valle was born in Brooklyn and raised by his mother, Delia. Valle attended Kingsborough Community College and became enamored of the creative arts. After graduating, Valle followed his passion to the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where he received his BFA in Graphic Design in 1997. After graduation, Valle joined Newsweek magazine, serving as the art director for the covers of Newsweek International for nine years.

In 2014, Valle entered the world of commercial illustration. He began creating work for the nonprofit publisher Rethinking Schools, the New York Observer, the Chronicle of Higher Education and National Public Radio, among others. In 2020, his work received an Honorable Mention from the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles. Valle served as a jury member for the Society of Illustrators 53rd annual. He lives with his wife, Julie, sons Cristian and Gabriel, and daughter, Grace, in Ada, Michigan.

The following work represents a complete shift in artistic process inspired by the Hartford Art School MFA in Illustration program. My written thesis, entitled, Metamorphosis, detailed my journey through an artistic awakening and the exploration that followed.
