For Collecting is a body of work that grew from my fears of losing memories. Throughout my life, I’ve hoarded any physical depiction of memories I’ve been able to collect, from photographs to movie ticket stubs with the false hope that owning a physical connection to a time in my life will keep me tied to it and help me not forget. This concept of hoarding memories extended to photo albums and scrapbooks, full of photographs of old childhood friends I may never speak to again. For this project, I repeatedly captured moments in a documentary, snapshot style with someone currently important in my life. I archived moments with this person and aimed to document our time together and archive the now. Building For Collecting has made me think about the fact that giving memories a physical form is still important to me to hold for the future.
