Artist Statement

I have worked professionally creating comics for several years, but since I had been working for a company with specific licensing requirements, the comics lacked my own personal narrative.  There have been the makings of a story mulling around in my head for some time now.  I have known that I wanted to create a young readers comic book since my own daughter was young.  The most difficult part has been to take that step forward to actually start putting the idea down on paper.

As an identical twin, I have heard people ask repeatedly throughout my life if my twin sister and I can read each other’s minds.  I thought it would be enjoyable to have characters that actually have this ability, since it is apparently something people think twins possess.  One of the most common experiences twins go through is that part in our lives where we have to develop separately from each other.   When twins are young, people often treat them as a single person.  So for my thesis, I focused on creating sequential art for young readers that incorporated my own personal experiences as a twin, as well as developing my own drawing style beyond licensed characters.
