There are so many different ways people tell other people’s fortunes. Tarot, palm readings, crystal balls, etc but eight balls are never normally used. I wanted to encapsulate an African American woman levitating an eight ball and glowing as she is telling the audience their fate.

Drive-Ins are almost completely eradicated and it sucks because of how fun they are. I wanted to modernize that and create made up vintage cars but in a more futuristic way and have an undead nun coming out of the screen. The two women watchers are stunned and then throw up their container of popcorn.

Self Portrait – 1920’s themed

The theme of the Illustration Senior Show was supposed to be Deco and our themed piece was a self-portrait. Taking inspiration from Josephine Baker, an (Black) American born French entertainer, and civil rights activist. She had a pet Cheetah, and my favorite animal is a tiger so I wanted to have myself cuddling my “pet”. My favorite number is also 8 (VIII) which also happens to be the tarot card for strength where a tiger is often shown in the image.

If Stevie Nicks was an animal. The idea of animals in people’s clothing is both hilarious and beautiful. Animals have a personality just like people do and clothing is a way to bring that out.

Taking the composition of Rembrandt’s A Polish Nobleman, I put a Doberman in the man’s clothing. A more fitting choice in my opinion.

Taking inspiration from Hiroshige’s landscapes, I made up my own little raining island. Tsuki meaning moon and shima meaning island in Japanese.

Urania

Urania is a Greek muse/goddess of Astronomy. Based on the idea of Genji’s blown off roof — showing something that is not normally seen, I wanted to show Urania sitting on a pedestal inside of her stone head.

The Grim Reaper is sitting with this kid that is entirely unaware of his impending doom. Perhaps this is to illustrate an unlikely fear of mine and shed light on the fact that it is best to be aware of your surroundings when on public transport. The headphones hide the noise of the thunder and him hearing someone/thing sit next to him and him being asleep hides the bright lightning and the fact that he is headed underwater.
