Integrated Media Arts (IMA) reflects the engagement with new imaging technologies in contemporary art and their impact on artistic and cultural production. This includes web-based projects, video and moving images, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), and gifs and animation.
IMA majors use digital technology as a sophisticated art-making tool within a broad and cross-disciplinary context. The exploration of new media with traditional art disciplines demonstrates an interdisciplinary approach evident in current contemporary international art practice.
The IMA program encourages interdepartmental investigation and collaboration within the Hartford Art School and across the University. IMA students participate in inter-collegiate projects, especially with The Hartt School’s Composition and Dance departments; the College of Engineering, Technology and Architecture; and the Cinema Department in the College of Arts and Sciences.
